Nuad Phaen Boran literally means "massage in the ancient tradition" and is the classical Thai massage technique. Its roots lie in Indian Ayurveda and yoga; at the Wat Pho temple in Bangkok it has been systematically documented since the 19th century. It combines rhythmic pressure along the ten Sen lines with passive stretches, performed without oil, in comfortable cotton clothing.

Sen lines are the energy channels of traditional Thai healing. The ten main ones are called Sip Sen and form the core system of Thai massage. Masseuses work along these lines with thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows, knees and feet. This is a traditional Thai concept with roots in Ayurveda and yoga, not a Western-anatomical model.

As you prefer: you can stay in loose, comfortable clothing, or undress and be covered with towels. For the aroma oil massage you wear underwear; a towel covers any area not currently being worked on.

Pressure can be firm but never goes beyond your personal comfort level. We discuss the intensity with you beforehand, and you can speak up at any time during the session, a "good discomfort" at deeper pressure is normal, but sharp or unpleasant pain does not belong in the treatment.

No, the stretches are adapted to your individual range of motion. Beginners, older guests and less athletic people are just as welcome as yoga practitioners or athletes.

That depends on your personal preference. Many guests come every four to six weeks for a regular moment of balance; others only on occasion, before travel or during stressful times. We're happy to suggest a rhythm that suits you after your first visit.

A 60-minute session is a good introduction with focus on one body area. For a complete full-body treatment we recommend 90 minutes, our most common choice. For an extended journey through all Sen lines, 120 minutes is ideal.

Please avoid heavy meals in the two hours before your appointment, the passive stretches feel much more comfortable on a not-too-full stomach. A light snack half an hour before is fine. Drinking enough water before and after does you good.

Some guests notice a mild muscle after-feeling in the 24 to 48 hours following a first session, a response to the unfamiliar pressure and stretching. Drinking plenty of water and avoiding strenuous exercise that day usually helps.

During pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, please consult your doctor before booking. Let us know about the pregnancy when you reserve your appointment so we can plan a suitable treatment together.

Our treatment areas are separated by curtains or partitions, and you change in a private space. During an aroma oil massage only the area currently being worked on is uncovered; the rest stays covered by a towel. During traditional Thai massage you remain fully clothed throughout.
